I just bought a new crafting/sewing tool: the Knook. It combines knitting with crochet. Hopefully, this will help me learn how to make socks–one of my goals for 2012. I will gladly appreciate any hints, books, tips, etc that any knitters can share!

My very favorite childhood memory of Christmas is when I learned how to knit. I made each one of my beautiful little cousins knitted slippers with big ponpoms on the top. I was determined to give every one of them another present to open, and to know that their big cousin, Susie, wanted to give something to you to show my love, pride, and loyalty.
It didn’t matter if you really wore them on your feet, hands or head. If you used them to skate down the hallway or put on a snowman. It was so important for me to let you all know I could give you something. Of course, they were made from rug yarn–the cheapest I could buy with my babysitting money. I remember stitching away thinking about how lucky I was to have so many cousins. After all, cousins were the next to sisters and brothers.
I don’t know if any of my cousins remember the slippers I made for them. The important thing is that I remember and it makes me extremely happy. This Christmas I want you to know that even though I haven’t been present for 15+ years, I still thank God for all my cousins. You still fill me with love, pride, and loyalty.
It’s just that I still remember you being the kids, not the parents and grandparents!

This is one of my very favorite Christmas trees. I only need to buy some silver icicles to staple in little bunches!

I just posted photos of the method I came up with to handle small triangles easier:

After stitching the two diagonal lines and before cutting apart, I put the dark fabric on top and fold back each triangle and pressing along the seam line. The seam automatically will fall to the dark fabric after you cut them apart! For more photos, see my other blog at http://susan-my2cents.blogspot.com

Shane in Hawaii

I’m already getting emotional for October 25th when my first born son, Shane, would now be 36 years old. Some days it seems like it was only a few days ago that I got that horrible call. I’ve been in a self-induced solitary confinement trying to get over the pain, anger, sadness, guilt and other negative emotions.
At least October 25th is also my neice’s birthday, so I always hear from her on that day.
I’ve also decided to put on my big girl panties and open a Facebook page. After years of fighting it, I finally pleased many in my extended family by coming out of the dark and into the light of supportive family and friends.

I finally surrendered to the fact that it would benefit me to have a Facebook page. It’s been fun seeing who in my past and current world is now reachable!

It’s been too long since I’ve kept up with my blogging. Much has happened=Life and deaths. However, now it’s time to move forward and enjoy the time I now have opened to me.
My little man is now in school all day, and I’m not working at the salon anymore. Woo hoo! I have a HUGE list of things to share and make. New sewing machines, a new furry quilt tester (above), lots of “free” time to do all those things I’ve been missing.
Astro Update: His 2nd visit to the vet and he weighs 3.4 lbs now. He has some stomach and colon issues, so we’ve been nicknaming him Gastro!
